Record Store Day rolls around on April 20th, and once again Vanguard Records has some interesting offerings from their eclectic catalog, chosen in a listener poll.
Titles include Festival: The Newport Folk Festival 1965; Blues at Newport 1963; Country Joe and The Fish, I Feel Like I’m Fixin’ to Die; Buddy Guy, Hold That Plane, and Big Mama Thornton, Jail, all remastered from the original master tapes by David Glasser, who had this to say about the project:
“This is the third year we’ve worked with Vanguard Records on their Record Store Day LP releases, working from the original master tapes. If I had to pick a favorite (a hard thing with this batch of recordings), it would be the iconic “I Feel Like I’m Fixin’To Die” by Country Joe and the Fish (including the Fish Cheer!). For this album the high resolution transfers were given the Plangent Processes treatment, which removes all wow and flutter and other speed perturbations, however inaudible. The result is a rock solid stereo image and excellent bass definition – like listening to the output of the mixing console (45 years after the session). The lacquers and test pressings sounded great in my studio. I can’t wait for the release!”
Airshow is an authorized Plangent Processes transfer facility. For details on Plangent, and our analog tape transfer services, please contact David Glasser at 303-247-9035 or use our contact form.
Look for the limited edition reissues from Vanguard at a record store on April 20th. Time to get those turntables out of the attic!
