Airshow Announces Client Grammy Nominations

Boulder, CO and Takoma Park, MD – 2014 is shaping up as a big Grammy year for Airshow engineers. Three out of five nominations for “Best Bluegrass Album” were mastered at Airshow, and two other projects mastered or recorded at Airshow have been nominated for Grammy awards this year. This year’s nominees include:

“Ritual” (Mysterium Music) by Peter Kater and R. Carlos Nakai is the first recording of these artists together in over ten years. The album was mastered by Airshow’s David Glasser and is described as “a rich and soulful exploration of Self within a musical landscape created through deep listening, presence and love.” (Best New Age Album)

“The Nocturne Diaries” (Red House Records) by Eliza Gilkyson was produced by Gilkyson’s son Cisco Ryder, mixed by Airshow’s James Tuttle, and mastered by Airshow’s Dominick Maita. “Gilkyson uses her nocturnal musings to create a shimmering album that sounds just as impressive in the daylight as in the darkness that inspired it,” wrote Hal Horowitz in a review of the album in “American Songwriter.” (Best Folk Album)

“Into My Own” (Sugar Hill Records) by Bryan Sutton features the six-time winner of the International Bluegrass Music Association’s “Guitar Player of the year” award in his vocalist debut. The album was engineered by Ben Truitt and Mike Poole, and mastered by Airshow’s Randy LeRoy. (Best Bluegrass Album)

The “Earls of Leicester” (Rounder Records) produced by Jerry Douglas, celebrates the bluegrass music of Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs. The project was engineered by Bil Vorndick and mastered by Airshow’s David Glasser. (Best Bluegrass Album)

“Cold Spell” (Compass Records) by Frank Solivan & Dirty Kitchen, known frequently as “the next big thing on the bluegrass circuit.” The album was produced by Frank Solivan, and mastered by Airshow’s Randy LeRoy. It also features special guests Leon Alexander, Sam Bush, John Cowan, Rob Ickes, and Megan McCormick. (Best Bluegrass Album)

In addition, two large box sets that Airshow worked on received nominations this year:

“Spring 90 (The Other One),” a Rhino release of Grateful Dead recordings, which was mastered by Airshow’s David Glasser, was nominated for Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package.

“The Rise and Fall of Paramount Records Volume 1 (1917-27),” released by Third Man and Revenant Records, and restored and mastered by Airshow’s David Glasser and Anna Frick, was nominated for Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package and for Best Album Notes for its two books of documentation.
